Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has raised concern over the rising rate of Covid-19 infections in the country.

He decried that many people have disregarded Health ministry protocols to control the spread of the virus.

The governor said in Kiambu, the Covid-19 centre at Tigoni hospital was receiving patients daily, and now has more patients than it had last year.

Nyoro said the hospital which has 330 beds has already admitted 70 patients with Covid-19 who among them 60 are in aid of oxygen.

“When you move around, you will notice some people walking in public places without face masks, others do not wash their hands and others are still shaking hands” he said.

He was speaking on Wednesday when he toured Lari Level 4 Hospital’s new block which is under construction and will have a 270-bed capacity.

The governor said the hospital will be complete by December this year, adding that it will boost medical services in the area, as Tigoni hospital which neighbours it has now been converted to a Covid-19 centre.

Nyoro was accompanied by CEC’s David Kuria (water), Joseph Kamau (agriculture) and Joseph Murega (health), others were MCA’s Dominic Kiranga (Kinale), Nyutu Wamwere (Kijabe) and Joseph Karichu (Lari Kirenga) and members of Limuru municipality board.

Karichu lauded the governor saying the facility will now be able to provide more health services such as surgeries, X-ray, dental and wards for patients.

“Our people have been traveling far in search of health services. Once this hospital is complete, more services will be available and will have been brought closer to the people,” he said.
