President Uhuru Kenyatta had directed all state and public officers aged above 58 years or who have compromised immune systems to work from home.

However, Uhuru said, those serving in critical sectors are exempted.

The president said this is to protect Government staffers drawn from vulnerable groups.

I t has been established that old people and those with underlying health conditions such as Diabetes and High Blood Pressure are at a high risk of progressing to fatal stage of Covid-19.

Uhuru spoke on Wednesday during his national address on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

In his address, Uhuru noted that October was the most tragic month in Kenya's fight against Covid.

In that month alone, the country recorded 15,00 new cases and 300 deaths.

In only 38 days, the country's positivity rate has tremendously increased three times more.

"We as Kenyans seem to have backtracked from the practices that we learnt in the early stages of the pandemic. all this build up in around a false notion that the curve is flattening and we can go ahead with our normal lives," Uhuru said.

"As I said earlier, the most fragile point of any war, happens at the point when victory is at sight."

Meanwhile, the Head of State also suspended all political rallies for 60 days.

"It would be a tragedy that leaders give in to the weariness of the virus,"  the President said.

"If the public has backslidden occasioned by diminishing stamina on the part of our leaders not leading by example...We as leaders have no option to give our all; we must show our people the way. Rise to the occasion and help navigate through this pandemic."
