Meru on alert after 14 Safaricom staff contract Covid-19

More than 400 people are attended at the shop every day.

Health officers in Meru have appealed to residents who were in contact with 14 Safaricom shop staff who turned positive for Covid-19 to get tested.

Meru Level 5 Hospital CEO James Kirimi said the 14 Meru branch Safaricom staff who received positive results last Wednesday are isolated and receiving treatment at the facility.

 

More than 400 people are attended at the shop every day.

He said 20 other clients who were in close contact with the 14 are quarantined in Meru as the surveillance team moves to contain spread of the virus.

“The 14 were from our mass testing through the Covid-19 surveillance team. There the 20 contacts quarantined to protect and not to expose residents. The shop was closed by public health so as to counter any exposure,” Kirimi said.

He revealed that the the Health experts project that about 900 people could contract the disease in Meru.

Kirimi said all front-line health workers who have been attending to Covid-19 emergencies  have all turned negative.

“The first frontline health workers group are all negative,” Kirimi said.
