An inter-faith council will be constituted in seven days to work out the modalities and protocols for reopening places of worship, President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Saturday.

It will be set up by the Ministries of Health and the Interior by next Saturday, he said.

He did not give a date for reopening places of worship.

Speaking at a press briefing, President Kenyatta extended the ban on all forms of social and political gatherings.

The ban on operation of bars and restaurants, except for take-out food, has been extended for another 30 days.

International travel restrictions have also been extended. The Ministry of Transport has been directed to engage stakeholders and guide resumption of local air travel within seven days.

The President, however, relaxed the curfew hours, which will now be from 9pm to 4am starting on Sunday, June 7.

In accordance with the advice of the National Security Council, the President also extended the cessation of movement into and out of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, Mombasa and Mandera by another 30 days.

 

He announced the lifting of the cessation of movement into and out of Kwale and Kilifi counties.

The President lifted the cessation of movement into and out of Eastleigh, Nairobi, and Old Town, Mombasa, from 4am on Sunday, June 7.
