The government has said that lack of sample kits used in delivering Covid-19 results are the cause for the decline in the number of people being tested.

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said on Tuesday during the briefing that kits such as nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs are in short supply even though there are several laboratories for testing.

Releasing the new cases in the last 24 hours, the CAS said 545 people were tested, 15 turned positive raising the number of positive cases to 296 in the country.

The numbers are low compared to 1,330 samples tested on Monday where eight were positive.

Out of the 15 cases, six patients were from quarantine centers while the other nine were picked from different locations.

The 15 are aged between 19-75 and the other five who were in isolation centers have recovered.

“Five patients have recovered as of today bringing the total of recoveries to 74 people,” Mwangangi said.

At the moment, the government is looking for 730 people who might have been contacted by the patients.

The CAS asked Kenyans to take full responsibility if the country is to flatten the curve of the virus.

The CAS asked Kenyan youths to follow the measures set by the government to mitigate the further spread of the virus.

“Young people breaking curfew are being warned to stop this behaviour,” CAS said.

Mwangangi said that the curfew imposed by the government is not meant to punish anyone but to ensure safety in society.
