Interior CS Fred Matiang'i in a speech read by regional commissioner James Kianda thanked the medics for the camp.

Matiang'i noted that access to quality health care services has been one of the major challenges facing not only the two counties but also the country.

Governor Ongwae thanked the association for organising the medical camp as a way of giving back to the society.

“These are our sons and daughters who have purposed to give back to the community in the area of medical services through free medical camps,” Ongwae said.

He said the medical camp supplements the President’s Big Four agenda on the provision of Universal Healthcare for all.

“It affirms your desire to support the efforts of our governments to provide health care to our people. This is a noble gesture which I urge all other gifted sons and daughters of the soil in other professions to emulate,” Ongwae added.

Representatives from the Kenya Medical Research Institute, the Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, Pharmacy and Poisons Board also participated in the event.

Others were private organisations like the Coptic Hospital, Beta Healthcare, Angelica Medical Supplies, Kisii Eye Hospital, HEMA Hospital, AMS Group and Dynapath Laboratories.

Ongwae urged residents from Kisii and Nyamira counties to come out in large numbers to benefit from the medical camp.

He said that the county has availed laboratories and four surgical theatres at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital while HEMA hospital has also reserved a theatre for the exercise.

The county boss and Onyonka called on residents to take advantage of the free medical camp and turn up for screening.
