Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Tuesday said he is the only leader from Ukambani capable of making a serious stab at the presidency in the 2022 polls.

Mutua said voters are tired of recycling leaders and argued that this had led to the breeding of the culture of corruption and lethargy within the political class.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said it was saddening that some leaders close to President Uhuru Kenyatta were abetting corruption. He urged the President not to relent in his war on graft.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, all from Ukambani, have also expressed their interests in the presidency.

Mutua said he will soon begin countrywide tours to popularise his candidacy. "I will comb every village in Kenya to sell my policies ahead of the 2022 polls. I will be in the race."

The governor spoke at Muri Farm in Masinga constituency where he issued 301 title deeds to residents. He said he was the surest bet for the Kamba community to become the next President after Uhuru.

"I'm the only Kamba leader who can get votes outside the region, you need votes from other communities," he added.

Mutua decried the hard economic times Kenyans face, blaming it on poor leadership. He said the youth are stuck in massive joblessness, which he termed a ticking time bomb.

The county chief said he is ready to offer transformative leadership once President Kenyatta's term ends. He urged leaders to stop dividing Kenyans along tribal lines for their own selfish interests.
