A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for "intentionally" defiling a seven-year-old girl in Huruma estate, Nairobi.

The prosecution told a Milimani court on Friday that

a witness found Daniel Mwinzi in bed with the girl and alerted neighbours.

The court also heard that Mwinzi was the boyfriend to the girl's mother and had claimed she was his daughter.

But senior principal magistrate Charity Oluoch said documents she had indicated the accused was not the girl's biological father.

A clinical officer who tabled medical reports said no discharge was found but that the girl's hymen was broken, an indication she had been defiled.

Mwinzi did not respond to the allegations.

Oluoch ruled: "The prosecution has proven beyond doubt that the accused defiled the child. He has

14 days to make an appeal."
