Amani National Congress leaders in Kakamega County have come together and unanimously agreed to throw their support behind Shinyalu Member of Parliament Fred Ikana to take over the County Chairman’s position.

The position was previously occupied by former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala who ditched the party to become the United Democratic Alliance Secretary General.

Ikana is one of the two MPs who were elected into the National Assembly on ANC ticket in Kakamega County. The other one is Malulu Injendi of Malava Constituency.

The leaders accused Malala of having the intention to kill multi-partyism by calling the Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties to fold and join UDA.

“We are equal partners in Kenya Kwanza Political Alliance but we want all the affiliate parties to be respected," said Patrick Anguba the Shinyalu Sub-County Chairman.

"We are asking the UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala to respect ANC and Ford-Kenya and allow them to run their affairs without any interference.”

The members asked Malala to stick to his new role and strengthen the UDA party instead of rooting for dissolving other political outfits.

They said they are in full support of President Ruto’s 2027 aspirations but at the same time, they were preparing the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for presidency in 2032.

Shirugu Mugai Member of the County Assembly who is also one of the ANC leaders in Kakamega County stated that ANC was a solid and formidable outfit.

“We are set to go out and do mass recruitment for the party. We shall not be deterred by anybody," Ndakwa said.

"Already we have a youthful and focused leader in the name of Fred Ikana who will be spearheading the recruitment process in the entire Kakamega County as the ANC chairman.”

Women leader Nyiva Oluchiri said Mudavadi sacrificed his presidential ambition to support William Ruto at a time when it was unfashionable to do so.

“Under the tutelage of Hon. Ikana, we shall protect the ANC party with our blood. Whoever has any intentions of dissolving our party should look for something else to do but leave ANC alone,” said Oluchiri

The leaders appreciated President Ruto for the move to allocate Mudavadi an extra docket of Foreign and Diaspora affairs saying this was a show of confidence in the Prime CS.

Mudavadi now runs the ministry in addition to running normal duties as Prime Cabinet Secretary.

He has become one of the most powerful individuals in Ruto's government because he will now be sitting on the National Security Council.

The ANC leaders held that owing to this position that Mudavadi now holds, his party should be strengthened in preparation for his future leadership.
