Former President Mwai Kibaki had been asked to sack former Bumula MP Bifwoli Wakoli from his position as Lands assistant minister, but he ignored the advice.

While recalling his days in the Cabinet, Wakoli on Monday told reporters that some advisers had asked Kibaki to fire him after he became controversial in his remarks about the government.

"Instead, Kibaki said let him continue working for the people of this great nation," Wakoli told reporters in Bungoma town.

The former MP represented Bumula for two terms between 2002 and 2013.

Wakoli sent condolences to the family of Kibaki and the country at large for losing the good leader and a parent to many.

“I can’t believe that my close friend Mwai Kibaki is no more. He was a tender-hearted man, witty and hardworking president who brought changes in the country.”

Wakoli said Kenya will never get someone like Kibaki who preached peace whenever he went.

He lauded the former president for introducing CDF funds in constituencies that have helped many bright but needy students to access to education.

Wakoli urged presidential aspirants to emulate the Kibaki's style of politics and practice how to bring Kenyans together as one way of promoting peace in the country.

The former MP further said Kibaki told the truth without fear.
