Baraka Lyster wishes she could stand up and dance to celebrate her exemplary performance in the 2021 KCPE exam.

But that is not possible after she suffered a broken leg.

"Were it not for my broken leg that is troubling me, I would be celebrating with my friends, family and teachers at school," she said.

Baraka, who comes from Nambaya village in Bungoma, scored 409 marks in the KCPE exam.

She was injured when a boda boda she had boarded with her mother and younger brother collided with an oncoming motorbike on March 13.

"We were coming from church with my mother and younger brother when a boda boda man hit us," Baraka said.

She said she fell unconscious after the accident and woke up in hospital.

Baraka spent two weeks at Bungoma County Referral Hospital. She was discharged on Monday evening.

"My leg was badly broken and an operation had to be done," she said.

Her mother had internal bleeding and was referred to St Luke Hospital in Eldoret for further examination and treatment, while her younger brother lost a toe.

Baraka hopes to join Mary Hill Girls School and later pursue medicine course at Harvard University.

"I dream of becoming a doctor,” she said.

Her father said he was proud of his daughter's performance, adding that she has always been a top scorer in school.

Baraka sat her KCPE exam at Bungoma DEB Primary School, which is the most populated learning institution in the county.
