Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has launched the construction of a Sh98 million hospital in Luanda to decongest the county general hospital.
He said the Level 4 facility will have 90 beds. It is set to be completed before the election.
The governor said he will also set up similar hospitals in Hamisi, Vihiga, Emuhaya and Sabatia subcounties.
"My administration is set to do such hospitals in all five subcounties to bring quality health services to people," Ottichilo said.
"We want to ensure people receive health services within their locality. We shall streamline the Mbale Referral Hospital to only special cases that can't be dealt with in Level 4 facilities."
The governor spoke during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the facility at Emuhaya hospital in Luanda.
He said they have developed new health laws that will govern the resources within the facilities.
"We have also developed laws that govern revenue collection in those facilities and how the money will be spent," he said.
The revenue collected in hospitals will be spent in ensuring continued supply of drugs.
The governor further said once the facility is complete, they will drill underground water to ensure a 24/7 supply.
"A backup generator and solar will be in place so that even when the power goes out, services will not be disrupted," Ottichilo said.
He said plans to digitise health services and hospital data to end paperwork in the county are in the works.
"We are soon walking away from that paperwork and that will help tell who is on duty and who is absent," the governor said.
He said the digitisation will also help the county weed out cartels who steal drugs from county facilities.
