Vihiga receives Sh30m medical equipment from Kemsa

The drugs will be distributed to all 73 health facilities across the county

The county government of Vihiga has received medical equipment and drugs worth Sh30 million from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.

"The supplies will help our health team deliver services to our residents across the county," Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo said.

While receiving consignment from Kemsa at the county headquarters Ottichilo said he had requested for drugs worth Sh60 million.

​​"We have received drugs worth Sh30 million and we are waiting for the second dispatch also worth Sh30 million," Ottichilo said.

The governor said the drugs will help residents and boost  health services in the county.

The drugs will be distributed to all 73 health facilities across the county.

"We urge our staff in the health services to ensure they are making good use of the drugs for the sake of our people," he said.

Ottichilo warned the staff against engaging in any acts of drug theft.

He said those who will be found in will be dealt with.

Vihiga has dealt with cases if drug theft in the past. County health officers allegedly stole drugs and used in their to private facilities.

Emuhaya hospital in Luanda and Ipali health centre lost medical equipment that pushed the governor to conduct a reshuffle in the health docket.

However, since security has improved within the facilities theft cases have dwindled.

Ottichilo said the health department requires about Sh80 to Sh100 million quarterly to ensure smooth operations within the sector.

He said good health services in the county start with hiring competent staff and equipping them with the proper tools for effective delivery of services.
