Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has denied claims he is leaving ODM for Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s DAP-K party.

The county chief on Tuesday said he does not harbour plans to leave the Orange party any time soon.

Ojaamong has on several occasions indicated that he is an ODM  life member.

The governor was responding to clams by Lugari MP Ayub Savula that the former Amagoro MP has been picked by Wamalwa to be DAP-K’s point man in Busia.

Savula in interview with a local FM station alleged that Ojaamong will contest for the Teso South seat on a DAP-K party ticket.

“Let me put the record straight that the ODM is my party yesterday, today, tomorrow and in future,” Ojaamong said in a message shared on his official Facebook page.

“I repeat, ODM is my party and Raila Odinga is my party leader. In all my political life, ODM has remained my party of choice. I will work to deliver Busia county votes to Raila, the 5th.”

Ojaamong was elected governor in 2013 on an ODM party ticket.

He also served as Amagoro MP between 2002 and 2013 before being elected county chief.

The governor boasts of a cordial political relationship with Raila.

He served as Raila’s personal assistant when Raila was Liberal Democratic Party leader during Kanu era.

Savula claimed that Ojaamong plans to join DAP-K before the end of this week.

“In Busia, Eugene has accessed Governor Ojaamong who is defecting to DAP-K and is going to run for a parliamentary seat. Ojaamong will be in charge of Busia,” Savula said in the interview.

The MP made the remarks as he explained why ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi is unwilling to form a coalition with Raila.

He claimed Mudavadi was bitter with Raila because he rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s proposal that the President and Raila retire from politics and support a Luhya for the post of president in 2022.

Raila, the MP claimed, proposed that if he and the president must retire from politics and support a Luhya for president, then that Luhya should be Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Savula claimed the President made the remark while meeting Raila and Mudavadi among other leaders from Western at State House Nairobi recently.

So far, leaders in Busia who have joined DAP-K include Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba, former Agricultural Finance Corporation managing director Lucas Meso and former Teso North MP Arthur Odera.

DAP-K was launched in late 2021.

The party support Raila’s Azimio la Umoja and is pushing for the former prime minister’s presidency in 2022.
