Ford Kenya MCAs from Bungoma county have asked Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu and his Kanduyi counterpart Wafula Wamunyinyi to surrender and support party leader Moses Wetang'ula.

Led by assembly Majority leader Joseph Nyongesa, the MCAs said the two MPs were fighting a losing battle in their attempt to remove Wetang'ula as party leader.

In May, Eseli announced that Wetang'ula had been removed as party leader and his position taken by Wamunyinyi in an interim capacity.

The matter is in court.

Speaking at the assembly compound, Nyongesa said last Thursday's High Court  ruling, where objections by the two legislators were thrown out, was a clear indication the coup plotters will not succeed in their mission.

"The ruling by the High Court where preliminary objections raised by both Eseli and Wamunyinyi were dismissed with costs was a sign they were heading nowhere," Nyongesa said.

The Tuuti Marakaru ward representative asked the duo to swallow their pride and surrender honourably before they are further embarrassed.

“There is nothing wrong in politics with surrendering and rethinking your stand. All this will be for their own good,” he said

Assembly deputy speaker Stephen Wamalwa wondered why the duo had headed to the Court of Appeal after claiming they had taken over the party.

“They told us the matter of the party take over was done and dusted but as you can see, things are not rosy for them. It will make sense if they abandon the coup and work with Wetang’ula,” Wamalwa said .

Wamwala asked the two MPs to stop being misled as they had failed in their attempted coup.

"I don't know who are advising our brothers. Once the conservatory orders are dismissed, you can't appeal," the Mitua Soysambu MCA said.

Wamalwa said the duo were only buying time after realising they had failed to seize power from the Bungoma senator.

On Thursday, a case filed by Wetang'ula challenging the changes made to the Ford Kenya leadership will proceed to full hearing at the High Court.

In May, a Ford Kenya faction led by Simiyu resolved to dismiss Wetang'ula as party leader, citing gross misconduct.

In the chaotic meeting, Wamunyinyi was picked to take over as party Leader on an interim basis.

Wetang'ula challenged the  move at the Registrar of Political Parties and in court.
