Governors to review, reflect on 2023 progress in Maasai Mara retreat

The annual Council of Governors summit has begun in Narok county with the county bosses having the chance to reflect on the achievements made and the challenges they encountered in the last year.

The governors will also have a chance to evaluate the state of devolution since 2013.

This year's theme is: reflect, realign and review.

The summit is taking place at Muthu Keekorok Lodge in the world-famous Maasai Mara.

This is the first time Narok is hosting such an event. 

The Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru said they would assess the weaknesses, strengths, opportunities and threats of devolution and take a position on the way forward.

During the two-day retreat, Waiguru also said, the governors will deliberate on how they will engage other stakeholders like the national government, civil society and the private sector.

She spoke during a press conference at Muthu Keekorok Lodge in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

The chairperson was flanked by her vice chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi and Narok governor Patrick Ole Ntutu.

The summit started with the county bosses having a chance to reflect on the achievements made and the challenges they encountered in the last year.

Waiguru said they will also use the meeting to evaluate the state of devolution since the advent of devolution in 2013.

"We will access the weakness, strengths, opportunities and threats of devolution and take a position on how the council can take matters of devolution forward," she said.

"The governors will deliberate on how they will engage other stakeholders including the national government, civil society and the private sector."

While welcoming them, Ntutu said that the county bosses should explore the rich Maa culture and enjoy watching the wild animals which makes the park one of the best in the world.
