• Natembeya public servants must rededicate themselves to serving mwananchi.

Lazy and corrupt county government officers in Trans Nzoia have been put on notice.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya said those who cheat on working hours will also be targeted as they would have violated the Leadership and Integrity Act.

He is the former, tough Rift Valley commissioner.

Speaking at the Westside Hotel on Saturday, Natembeya said there was need for public servants to rededicate themselves to serving mwananchi.

He spoke during a farewell party for outgoing County Commissioner Samson Ojwang,

The moments when public servants used to hang coats on chairs and go to do their private work is long gone. We expect everyone to work hard to make sure we catch up with other devolved units that are far ahead of us’’, he said.

Governor Natembeya on the other hand warned county staff that anyone who would be found guilty of corrupt practices in his government would carry their own burden.

"If you are not ready to work then the door of exiting public office is open. It isn’t a must for one to serve in the public sector and at the same time involve yourself in acts that doesn’t portray yourself as a public servant’’, he  said.

The Governor said his administration is putting in place strategies to ensure staff clock in during morning hours of reporting and  clocking out in the evening  when leaving.

He said his government is committed to zero tolerance to corruption, stating that it aims at improving the lives of its communities which can only be achieved through efficient service delivery.

The County boss singled out the outgoing County Commissioner Ojwang for praise for having overseen cohesion among all communities in Trans Nzoia.

Mr Natembeya expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from mr. Ojwang and other 13 County Commissioners who helped him manage the rift Valley during his stint as Regional Commissioner.

Ojwang and others were actually giving me information on their areas of jurisdiction by 3: 00 am when everyone was sleeping.  We kept a policy of not sleeping until citizens under our jurisdiction are asleep’’, Natembeya  said.

Ojwang  who has been transferred to Busia  served as Trans Nzoia County Commissioner for Trans Nzoia for three years and four months as has been replaced by Mathias Rioba.

Ojwang  thanked  the people of Trans nzoia for having accorded him an opportunity to work for them as their servant.

Residents of this great county were very helpful to me and assisted me in dispensing my duties. Im indebted to all of you business community, clergy, professionals and the political elites. May God bless you all’’, he said.

Natembeya’s  deputy Philomena Binea Kapkori and Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili attended the function.
