Residents of Kiamunyi in Nakuru county have suffered water shortages for more than two decades but now a Sh50 million project to supply water is almost complete.

Governor Lee Kinyanjui announced the project by the Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Company (Naruwasco) will serve more than 20,000 residents of upper and lower Kiamunyi.

He said laying pipes along the nine kilometre stretch from a borehole in Kerma area, Njoro, to Baraka estate in Kiamunyi has been completed.

The county has installed a 225 cubic metre tank in Menengai West Ward that will aid in storage and distribution of water to households.

He said the Kiamunyi water project is part of the 50 solar water projects completed in all the 11 subcounties.

Meanwhile, the Chemususu dam in neighbouring Baringo county is also nearly completed. It will  be used as a reservoir for Kiamunyi residents.

Chemususu dam was supposed to be completed in 2020 but was delayed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kinyanjui said Kiamunyi is one of the most preferred places for property investors, after residential areas in th cosmopolitan county.

It is home to middle and upper-income families.

Kinyanjui said despite having the striking view of the Menengai Crater, potential investors and homeowners are avoiding Kiamunyi due to water shortage.

He said the land prices has remained stagnant at between Sh1.6 and Sh2 million for an eighth of an acre but the prices are set to increase once water is supplied.
