Azimio la Umoja leaders in Narok county have urged the government to investigate Deputy President William Ruto over alleged incitement.
They said the DP’s recent utterances in Narok are a clear indication he is creating a wedge between the Maasai and Kipsigis communities who have lived in peace for a long time.
The leaders were led by Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta, his Kilgoris counterpart Gideon Konchellah, Youth Affairs PS Charles Sunkuli and Maasai Council of Elders chairman Kelena ole Nchoe.
They made the remarks during a political rally in Osupukiai, Shankoe ward, in Transmara West subcounty on Saturday.
Last week, the DP accused opponents of playing politics of fear and division in the county. The county is dominated by Maasai and Kipsigis communities.
“Ruto’s move is a clear indication that he wants violence to erupt because he has sensed humiliating defeat in Narok county and on the national stage,” Kenta said.
He told the DP that Narok is Raila Odinga's stronghold and he should not sow seeds of divisions among the communities.
“The Kipsigis community are our people and it is wrong for a leader who is not a resident to start telling the community that the Maasai community hates them,” Kenta said.
The legislator dismissed allegations that he will discriminate against a certain community if he is elected governor.
“I will unite all the communities and those spreading such propaganda have missed the point,” Kenta said.
UDA governor aspirant Patrick ole Ntutu urged residents to resist attempts to divide them and instead remain united as the election approaches. He spoke in Olopirik in Narok West subcounty.
