Azimio la Umoja leaders in Narok county have told DP William Ruto to stop creating a wedge between the Maasai and Kipsigis communities.

The leaders were led by Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta, his Kilgoris counterpart Gideon Konchellah and Youth Affairs PS Charles Sunkuli.

They said the two communities have been living in a peace for a long time and an ‘outsider’ should not come and ‘dictate’ matters for them.

While telling the DP to stop meddling in the county politics, Kenta warned him to stop visiting Narok to impose leaders on them because the residents have already decided on their political destination.

They spoke to the journalists after meeting county commissioner Isaac Masinde in his office on Wednesday.

Also, in attendance were elders led by Maasai Council of Elders’ chairman Kelena ole Nchoe and Post Bank chairman Ntoros Senteu.

“If indeed the DP is a national leader, why should he organise a meeting at the border of Narok and Bomet counties," Kenta said.

"He should have come to Narok stadium and do his meeting instead of putting Maasai and Kipsigis communities at loggerheads."

He told the locals to ignore the propaganda being spread by UDA leaders saying that Azimio team will continue to preach peace among all the communities.

“The Kenya Kwanza team lack an agenda so they have now resorted to inciting communities against each for votes,” he said.

Konchellah said it's sad for a respectable leader like Ruto to come to Narok and start sowing seeds of divisions among the communities.

“We have been living in peace with our brothers the Kipsigis and even including them in leadership positions because they are our neighbours," Konchellah said.

"But it is miserable for a few leaders who are not the residents of Narok to come and try to destabilise the peace between the two communities."

He added that the Kipsigis community living in the county have rights just like any other urging them not allow leaders from outside to use them as political capital.

Sunkuli said they meet the county commissioner as the leaders for foster unity among all the people.

“We wanted to improve the working relationships among the people and find solutions on issues affecting them,” Sunkuli said.

While attending the campaign launch of the Narok UDA governor candidate Patrick Ole Ntutu at Olopirik, Narok West subcounty on Tuesday, Ruto accused their opponents of spreading politics of fear and division in the county.
