- "It is very unfortunate that the country is importing so much including food products such as oranges, onions and eggs," he said.
- "Food is the most basic thing for all households, we can lower the cost of living by increasing production and supporting farmers," Nyakera said.
Farmers party leader, Irungu Nyakera has sounded a warning on food insecurity.
He said it is unfortunate that a country, which was among the best agricultural producers in the 1980s and 1990s imports everything including vegetables and fruits.
The Muranga gubernatorial aspirant spoke on Friday when he officially opened a Farmers party branch office in Nakuru.
He said the country was food insecure and promised to lobby for mega agricultural projects in the next government.
The Farmers leader said imports from Uganda and Tanzania have almost tripled.
Nyakera said the dwindling food production is due to the high cost of farm inputs.
He said the situation is contributing to the high cost of living.
"Food is the most basic thing for all households. We can lower the cost of living by increasing production and supporting farmers," Nyakera said.
He said his party together with five others in OKA are committed to make the next government.
Nyakera said OKA principals will make an announcement in a fortnight on the way forward.
"I can assure you that OKA will only join the winning side. The side that has the interest of all Kenyans at heart," he said.
Nyakera said it is more expensive for aspirants to vie on independent tickets in the general election.
He said his party is yet to establish offices in 19 counties but the 28 are sufficient to serve members countrywide.
