Residents of West Pokot asked to embrace fish eating

West Pokot is among counties with high levels of malnutrition and stunted growth

Residents of West Pokot County have been asked to embrace fish to help improve nutritional levels.

The county is among regions with high malnutrition cases and stunted growth.

 

West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo said residents along Turkwel dam had embraced fishing a source of livelihood and asked them now to start eating the fish.

“Fish has high nutritional value and I'm asking residents to start eating fish to help improve the nutritional value of their children,” he said.

Lonyangapuo said his government bought two  million fingerlings and restock the dam and now are ready for harvesting.

He said the fish population at the dam had increased and was happy that the dam had helped in changing lives of people living around it.

“The dam has breathed a new lease of life to the residents of Turkwel,” he said.
