Police arrest five suspected gang members in Kisumu

Police have arrested five young men they said are members of a criminal gang in Kisumu.

They are Dennis Odhiambo alias Deno, Hillary Odero alias Konza, Eugene Akello alias Yujo, Alex Amena alias spanner boy and Hassan Hussein alias Marwa.

Kisumu Central subcounty police commander Anthony Maina said the suspects raided an electronics shop at Riat in Kisumu West subcounty on July 6.

The suspects, who were captured on a CCTV camera, stole property worth Sh500,000.

The case was reported at Kogony police post on July 8. 

The shop belongs to a prison officer. 

Maina said they were arrested on Wednesday by officers from Kondele police station led by OCS Fredrick Kirui.

The arrests were made at Kondele roundabout, Koyango, Molem, Kayengo and Manyatta Arab.

They are suspected to be members of a nine-gang group that has been terrorising residents in Kisumu.

The police boss said they were trailing other suspects who are still at large.

Police impounded one motorbike the suspects allegedly used during the raid.

The suspects mostly use motorbikes to undertake their criminal activities.

The five will be transferred to Maseno Police Station, Kisumu West subcounty to be charged.
