Homa Bay Woman Representative aspirant Mary Ojode has called on residents to vet politicians and vote for only those who will develop the county

Ojode argued that the August 9 election will give the residents an opportunity to vote for a new set of leaders and they should be vigilant on the kind of people they elect.

She said voting politicians with poor personalities will deter residents from realising the much needed development agenda they expect from leaders.

According to Ojode, residents should consider looking at the  track record of all aspirants when electing leaders adding that she is the best person to replace Gladys Wanga.

“Majority of people with good track records tend to deliver on election pledges they make during campaigns,"she said.

"Let Homa Bay residents be sensitive on the people they want to elect ass leaders.”

Ojode, who is involved in sensitising residents on the roles of the woman representative position, said she will provide the best and transparent leadership should she get elected.

She is the wife of the late Ndhiwa MP and assistant minister for Internal Security Joshua Orwa Ojode.

She has engaged in empowerment activities such table banking for women, paying school fees to vulnerable children and constructing houses for widows.

Ojode unsuccessfully contested the Ndhiwa parliamentary seat in 2013 and 2017 elections.

In 2022, Ojode said she is going for the woman representative post as a platform to advocate for the interest of women, girls and vulnerable groups in the society.

“Understanding the roles of each leadership post will enable people to know the development project expect from a leader," she said.

"My leadership must be people oriented where we’ll implement only what people need most.”

Ojode is contesting the county woman representative seat on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya ticket.

ODM which is the most dominant party, is expected to produce its candidate after nomination scheduled for April 14.

Former Homa Bay executive member for Energy, Beatrice Ogolla, former Kisumu executive member for Roads Joyce Osogo and former Homa Bay Public Service board member Florence Ouma are eyeing the ODM ticket.

Others are Lavender Ojala, Tabitha Nyandiek, Moline Ngala and Sheryl Ayieko.

They want to succeed  Wanga who is the gubernatorial contest on the ODM ticket.

Ojode said political parties do not vote and offer development but an individual.

“I’m asking residents to vote with their eyes open for true economic growth. We want to have modern markets and continue empower our people,” she said.

She claimed the wants to fill the leadership void which has been witnessed in the position.

Ojode said that she has traversed Homa Bay, understood their problems and was ready to fix them.

“I will directly engage with the people so that we are able to know exactly what and where to a development project,” she said.
