Kemoni is among governor hopefuls bracing up for ODM nominations against party treasurer Timothy Bosire

In Summary

•Kemoni, however, wants the nominations to be done in a manner that is fair and transparent

•During the interview, Kemoni said he is up to the task of bringing sanity in the devolved unit

ODM Nyamira gubernatorial aspirant James Kemoni says poor services in the devolved unit pushed him to vie.

Kemoni said nothing appears to work, describing Nyamira as a dysfunctional unit that is  in urgent need of good leadership.

"Everything has ground to a halt, nothing is working. The county is in a total mess," he said.

Kemoni is among the ODM aspirants bracing up for nominations.

The other aspirant is the Orange party treasurer Timothy Bosire.

The party has dished out direct tickets to select aspirants.

In  Gusii no aspirant has been a beneficiary so far.

Unconfirmed reports however say that Kisii gubernatorial aspirant Simba Arati may receive a direct ticket in the coming days.

The fate of Woman Representative Janet Ongera  is not  clear yet with handlers saying she too may receive a party ticket by Saturday.

Ongera is facing competition from former Radio journalist Donya Toto who is also seeking the ODM ticket. Toto wants to run for the position while aligning with the Arati camp.

In Nyamira, there are fears  Bosire could be pushing for a direct ticket.

Kemoni, however, wants the nominations to be done in a fair and transparent manner.

"Whatever the machinations, and they are  there, we root for an open, free, fair and beyond reproach nominations exercise," Kemoni told the Star in an exclusive interview at his home.

The aspirant claimed he was not given a chance to talk during the Azimio la Umoja forum in Kisii where Raila Odinga was in attendance.

"There were antics  played out then but we hope they will not be a factor during the nominations," he said.

Bosire has since dismissed the accusations that he is seeking a direct ticket.

During the interview, Kemoni said he is up to the task of bringing sanity in the county.

He said devolution has had little effect in Nyamira despite huge resources being poured by Treasury.

"What is needed is a paradigm shift. A change in the thinking among our people," he said.

"We must give the electorate services they need not use them for our political conveniences and abandon them at the cross roads."

Among areas he wants to give priority f elected are health and infrastructure.

"We want our people to have a feel of devolution not just reading it on papers," Kemoni said.
