Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of presiding over a coalition of ethnic chieftains whose result was to divide the country.

Duale said what the President was doing was a total contradiction of what they stood for in 2015 when they folded regional parties to form the Jubilee party, whose purpose was to unite the country.

“Sadly, Uhuru and Raila Odinga have assembled over 30 regional ethnic village political parties led by regional ethnic kingpins to form a broad-based coalition of ethnic chieftains and kingpins to capture power and share positions,” he said.

On Saturday 26 political parties, including Wiper, signed the coalition agreement committing to work with Azimio la Umoja at KICC, Nairobi.

The ceremony was attended by President Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga among other leaders.

The leaders then proceeded to Jaracaranda where they held a public rally with Uhuru officially unveiling Odinga as the Azimio presidential candidate.

Duale urged Kenyans to unite under the Kenya kwanza coalition which he said was focused on uniting all Kenyans irrespective of their tribe, race or religious background.

The MP described the Azimio coalition as a merchant of ethnic and regional political leaders.

He spoke on Sunday at Munawar Islamic school in Garissa, during a farewell party of the outgoing candidates.

Duale said in August, Kenyans will vote for people who will defend the constitution, revive the economy and address the ballooning public debt.

“Kenyans will elect those who will respect the independence of the judiciary, the legislature and those who will say no to the re-introduction of an imperial presidency,” Duale said.

The former national assembly majority leader said the handshake between the two principles was not about the unity of the country but about 2022 succession politics and the state capture of the economy

“Unfortunately, you (Uhuru) will go down in history as a person who handed over power when our country was divided along with ethnic, regional and political systems,” he said.

Duale hit out at Northeastern leaders who have declared support for Odinga saying they did not represent the interests of the Somali community and the Muslim community as they alleged.

“As leaders, we will sit with the presidential candidates and they will tell us what is at stake for our people whether is education, health, the economy of this region, the war against terror or the extrajudicial killings that happen every day,” the MP said.
