Matiang'i says KCPE exam began without a hitch

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i says the Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) exam started early Monday without major hitches or incidents being reported.

The CS spoke at the Kithimani deputy county commissioner’s office where he officiated the opening of KNEC’s container and supervised the distribution of the examination in Yatta, Machakos County. The CS opened the container at 6.00 am.

“We are working together, all plans are in place. We are working closely with our colleagues in the Ministry of Education,” Matiang’i said.

The CS said as a government, they had made sufficient provisions to ensure that police officers and teachers who will administer the exams are safe.

“And we will continue to do that. I urge all Kenyans to support our colleagues in the Ministry of Education and our children,” he said.

“We will follow through with what our colleagues in the Ministry of Education have put in place,” Matiang’i said.

He lauded the ban on public meetings in schools across the country.

“My colleagues in NGAO (National Government Administration Officers) will work closely with colleagues in the education sector to ensure the schools offer a conducive environment during the examination season,” Matiang’i said.

Matiang’i said the government has for the last five years put policies in place to ensure that the national education cycle goes on well.

“It’s important to notice that we have gone through tough times for the last two years. We have to be grateful to God that he has seen us through the Covid – 19 pandemic,” Matiang’i said.

The KCPE exam began on March 7 and will end on March 9.

A total of 1,225,693 candidates are sitting the exam across 28,248 exam centres countrywide.
