Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Friday hosted the county's Iftar party at her Whitehouse office compound.

The event, known as the 'Machakos County Government Grand Iftar,' took place in Machakos town from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm.

It attracted hundreds of Machakos residents, both Muslims and non-Muslims, from all nine subcounties.

Ndeti, accompanied by her deputy Francis Mwangangi and other county and national government officials, led the celebrations.

Muslim leaders collaborated with county government officials to organize and ensure the success of the event.

Ndeti commended the Muslim community for their genuine sense of brotherhood, urging all Machakos residents and Kenyans in general to emulate this virtue.

“I’m impressed with the way the Muslim community is mindful of each other. I notice with gratitude how you support one another with love, you are so united, a virtue we should all emulate,” Ndeti said.

The Governor told residents not to discriminate against anyone based on religion, race, culture, tribe or other.

She encouraged the residents to embrace sharing with the less privileged in society, just as Muslims do.

“You must not be rich to share with other people. Share even the little you have with your neighbor and God will bless you,” Ndeti said.

Ndeti added, “I urge residents of all religions; Christians, Muslims, Hindus, etc, let’s embrace each other. All of us adore same God, that one God is supreme and Almighty. Why should we fight over little things here in the world?”

The Muslim community thanked Ndeti for recognizing them citing lots of job opportunities offered to them in her administration. Tens of Machakos County staffers with some holding senior positions were in attendance.

Expanding on her remarks, Governor Ndeti emphasized her administration's commitment to inclusivity, stating that Machakos County reflects the diversity of Kenya with representation from various communities in matters of employment.

She outlined several projects, opportunities, and plans her government is undertaking, including youth training, employment initiatives, business opportunities, and funding support for women, youth, and the elderly.

Additionally, she used the occasion to inform residents about her administration's projects and operations, cautioning against making payments for county government services in cash.

“All payments must be made through the official Machakos Government’s pay bill number,” Ndeti said.

On doctors’ strike, Ndeti urged the government to have a conversation with the medics and have the stalemate resolved.

“Our people are suffering, we are trying our level best as a county government. But, talks are important. There should be a give and take for both doctors and the government, each side shouldn’t have hard stances,” Ndeti said.

“Let’s find a middle ground so that we get solutions,” she added.
