In a bid to curb water shortage, Isiolo county government plans to drill seven boreholes.

The boreholes will be drilled at a cost of Sh25 million in three wards of Burat, Ngaremara, and Cherab.

The provision of clean and safe water for all residents of Isiolo County is top of Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo's agenda.

To realise this, his administration through the Department of Water, the boreholes will be located in Kakili, Kilimani, Alkadeli, Kiwanja, Lakole, Malkagala, and Alango.

Guyo revealed that the contractors have only this month of June to drill the boreholes which are set to benefit 1,904 households.

To bolster these efforts, Guyo's administration has also partnered with Cooperation on Peace and Development (COPAD) and Northern Rangelands Trust through the Kenya Ranger Program with funding from the European Union in Kenya.

They are to drill a solar-powered 25,000 litres per hour capacity borehole at Attan that will be serviced by a 100,000 litres tank.

Speaking on Thursday at the official site handing over ceremony, County Executive Committee (CEC) for Water Ali Wario observed that Governor Guyo is committed to meeting water needs for the great people of Isiolo.

He also urged beneficiaries of the Attan Water Irrigation project to protect the investment from would-be vandalism.

"Our governor is committed to providing water for every household in this great county. He has instructed me to make sure our people have access to clean and safe water, " Wario said.

The entire project which will include piping to a nearby farm is expected to be completed in the next four months.
