Chama Cha Uzalendo leader and Machakos governor aspirant Nzioka Waita has said he is the best candidate to succeed Governor Alfred Mutua.

Waita said he was experienced having worked at State House for over seven years as Chief of Staff alongside expertise gained in various positions in the corporate world.

The CCU leader said he was ready to take over.

“Machakos people need development and transformation, hence my skills are important. We will ensure their livelihoods improve,” Waita said.

In his transformative agenda, Waita said he will fix water problems in the county by laying reticulation from Mavoko subcounty to receive water coming from the Nothern collector.

Waita said he will settle the debts owed to Nooturesh to ensure Machakos and its environs receives water from that direction, alongside drilling more boreholes, dams and water harvesting pans.

The aspirant said water was number one on his transformative agenda.

He promised residents of clean, safe, affordable and accessible water once he becomes the next governor.

He said he will lay water pipes from Masinga dam so that water coming from the dam can be used for irrigation and domestic usage.

“I will ensure county systems are automated to make their manipulation impossible. We will ensure people get their land title deeds since the majority of landowners in Machakos are yet to hold the ownership documents,” he said.

This, he said will get rid of unnecessary brokers, cartels and corruption, ensuring justice to the genuine and legitimate landowners.

The CCU leader decried the high rate of land grabbing in parts of the county.

“Much of the public land has been grabbed. For instance in Syokimau, there is no space even to build a public school or social hall. I will recover the stolen public land,” he said.

Waita promised to improve the conditions of Levels 2, 3 and 4 hospitals across the county. He said he will deal with drugs thieves so that residents can have access to healthcare.

He said he will pay community health volunteers their monthly stipends regularly through Mpesa to enable them to meet people in villages and offer treatment and medication.

“I will fix the issues at Machakos Level 5 Hospital to ensure patients have access to equipment and drugs,” Waita said.

On matters of infrastructure, Waita said will grade most of the access roads while others will be developed into bitumen standards. He said most roads in both urban and rural areas were in bad shape.

He said he will build bridges saying Masinga subcounty, for instance, was worse as far as roads and bridges were concerned.

“People have to use boats to cross to Muthesya from Ekalakala in Masinga subcounty.,” Waita said.

The politician said he will establish youth polytechnics to enable youth to acquire life skills to earn meaningful livelihoods either through formal, informal or self–employment.

Waita said he will give all county tenders to residents. This will ensure accountability and communal ownership of the county government’s projects.

“I will fund the education of the best five students in both KCPE and KCSE from every subcounty,” he said.

Waita said he will take the burden of paying for ECDE from parents to the county government.

He will provide at least one meal in school for children to boost the feeding programme.

“The county women empowerment funds will be established once I take over the office. I don’t want to see women struggling with loans,” Waita said.

He promised to boost the national funds for the elderly by replicating the same in the county government.

Waita said he was the only Machakos governor aspirant without any history of corruption. Others he said were struggling to clear their names over graft involvement allegations.
