Nzioka Waita’s party CCU to support Raila’s presidential bid

The party agreed to extend application deadline for aspirants to March 24.

Machakos County gubernatorial aspirant Nzioka Waita on Monday chaired his first National Executive Council meeting as Party Leader of the Chama Cha Uzalendo.

During the meeting, Nzioka said that they agreed to support Azimio La Umoja Movement coalition's presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the August 2022 general elections.

The party also agreed to extend the application deadline for all aspirants to March 24.

The National Elections Board will also recommend to the NEC the best method for fair identification of candidates for all seats.

That the Party will support Azimio La Umoja and the Coalition’s Presidential Candidate Rt. Hon Raila Amollo Odinga in the August 2022 General Elections,” Waita said.

Waita’s leadership was published on the Kenya Gazette Notice No 1992 under the Political Parties Act NO 11 of 2011 on Friday.

The notice read, “Change of political party officials: In exercise of the powers conferred by section 20 (1) © of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the Registra of Political Parties gives notice that Chama Cha Uzalendo intends to make changes to their party officials as follows.

Earlier on, Waita asked other politicians who are not from Machakos to desist from being involved in issues of Machakos county yet they are not residents.

“The people of Machakos have a democratic right to elect their preferred Governor. Politicians from other counties must not impose a certain aspirant to the people of Machakos,” Waita said.

He is seeking to take over from the incumbent governor Alfred Mutua who is serving his second term.
