Former Manyatta MP Emilio Kathuri has ditched the Devolution Empowerment Party to vie for Embu governor on a Jubilee ticket.

Kathuri said he left DEP after he realised it was heading to its dead end.

“I was in the Mbus party and I held the driver’s position for Manyatta constituency as it was for the counterpart who held the same position in Mbeere,” he said.

“At Mbus we used the bus as our symbol and I compared the party with a bus full of mechanical problems hence serving danger to the people on board, this left me with no other option but to jump out of the bus for safety.”

Kathuri is a close all of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti who is also eyeing the county seat.

The former MP made a surprise move against expectations since he has been posing as Kivuti’s running mate when conducting campaigns.

Kathuri said he had shelved his political ambitions for the cohesiveness of the residents of Embu county, but the party showed more flaws that led him to take the initiative on his own away from Karaitu’s party.

“I decided to support Lenny Kivuti after realising the county needed someone to unite all the communities and sacrificed my interests of being a politician by his rights,” he said.

The former legislator was Kivuti’s running mate in 2017 who finished second behind Governor Martin Wambora in Embu county gubernatorial race.

Kathuri announced his gubernatorial bid shortly before DEP party joined Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja movement.

This has left most relating the reason behind the former MP departing from the DEP party with the decision.

Others who are eyeing the Embu governor seat are Manyatta MP John Muchiri, Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire and a renowned Psychiatrist Njagi Kumantha.
