Some Embu Wiper branch leaders have decamped to Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi's led Devolution Empowerment Party, or Mbus.

The leaders vowed to support DEP chairman Lenny Kivuti in his Embu gubernatorial bid.

They said Kivuti was interested in upgrading the county and Mt Kenya East region.

The Embu Wiper committee chairman Duncan Ngoroi said Kivuti will influence the appointment of ministers and principal secretaries from the county in the next government.

“In the current government, we have no ministers or PSs but with the Bus party, we anticipate being in the next government, hence our support for Kivuti,” Ngoroi said.

Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti hinted at working closely with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, saying the party is friendly to the DEP and he was not poaching its members.

“These people believe the Bus is the home party for Embu. They are just at home while not hating their party leader,” Kivuti said.

Kivuti called upon parties and individual members to register with the Development Empowerment Party.

He said the party is yet to decide on the presidential aspirant of their choice.

“We have not yet announced the route we’re taking. Our first motive is strengthening the party through members’ registration,” Kivuti said.

He said the party will decide according to her members stand.

DEP launched the members' registration exercise in Embu one week ago and Kivuti says the party has so far registered over 120,000 members.

The party target is to register 400,000 members within one month.
