Taita Taveta governor hopeful Patience Nyange has picked Dalton Mwaghogho as her running mate.

The media personality will run for the top seat on a Narc ticket in her bid to unseat Governor Granton Samboja.

While unveiling their candidature in Voi on Sunday, Nyange said the decision to pick Mwaghogho was reached after a rigorous vetting exercise conducted by a team of professionals.

“More than 12 candidates had applied for the deputy post. They were vetted by our team and Mwaghogho stood out as the best,” she said.

Without disclosing their names, Nyange said those who did not make it were competent professionals and that they shall take part in making of her government should she win the August 9 election.

She said her running mate’s financial management prowess will help revive the region’s economy.

She promised to transform the county's economy by tapping revenue from the multimillion-shilling mining sector and agriculture.

“He is an academic elite with robust knowledge and experience in finance and governance. He is an accomplished professional and a perfectionist with unique passion for finance management," Nyange said.

The duo promised to mount a breathtaking campaign across the county in a bid to woo voters to support their bid.

Nyange is rallying support from women and youth to clinch the seat in a county where women are seemingly sidelined in leadership.

The appointment of Mwaghogho is also expected to attract substantial votes from the professional class.

She is facing stiff competition from  11 aspirants who are eying the seat.

They are Samboja, former governor John Mruttu, Mwatate MP Andrew Mwadime and former senator Dan Mwazo.

Others are Stephen Mwakesi, George Mwandembo, Agnes Mwang'ombe, Faustin Mghendi, Godino Mwasaru and Onsemus Mwinzi.

In his acceptance speech, Mwaghogho said the county must confront the issues that have pushed residents into poverty.

“We must focus on things that work. This time we shall put in place policies, strategies and mechanisms for data-driven development,” he said.

He said their administration will take keen consideration in revamping business in the area and enhancing service delivery in the health sector.
