There was excitement at the Malindi subcounty hospital after a 33-year-old woman gave birth to quadruplets.

Grace Kavumbi from Kisumu Ndogo in Malindi town could not hide her joy after delivering two boys and girls safely through an operation on Monday.

The mother and all the babies are safe though the infants will stay in incubators for 10 more days before they are all discharged.

Malindi Parliamentary aspirant Kenneth Karisa visited the mother at the  hospital.

Kavumbi said she was happy that the delivery was successful.

She said doctors informed her earlier while she was pregnant but she could not believe it until she saw all the four babies.

Kavumbi now has six children.

“The first pregnancy I gave birth to twins, but one passed away the second one it was single a girl, this is the third pregnancy,” she said.

Kavumbi said she had already named the children Chrispus Ngua, Melinia Mhenzwi, Christopher Baya and Melina Maua.

Karisa gifted her with diapers, menstrual pads and other baby items.

He said they visited her after getting information about the successful delivery which also fell on the first day of the holy month of Ramadhan, when Muslims begin their fasting and prayers.

“This is a good sign that has come on the first day of fasting, four children, I congratulate her and call other leaders and well-wishers to visit her and offer gifts as she comes from a poor family,” he said.

Karisa said he would continue visiting the family to assist in the childrens' up bringing.

He said at times it is important to take a break from the politics and focus on aspects of humanity.

Patience Kipusa, a politician, also congratulated the mother and urged men to respect women as they have a huge responsibility of bearing children.

“I would like all leaders to come and support this woman because its not easy to go through such a process successfully,” she said.
