A legislator in Kiambu county has dismissed critics' claims that President William Ruto aims to weakening ODM party once it's leader Raila Odinga is elected as Africa Union chairman.

Limuru MP John Kiragu said people should be happy and stop looking at the post on a local perspective, but from an international one.

Kiragu urged all leaders to support Raila bid saying it will impact not only him but also to the country as a whole.

"Our President is behind his [Raila] bid. I mean, how can a party be weakened by one person getting another post somewhere?" the MP posed.

"The party has officials, elected leaders and many members and followers. How can it be weakened?"

He dismissed those spreading such information terming them selfish and whose aim is to mislead members and the country at large.

He spoke at Limuru Town Primary School during the institution's prize giving day.

The school's headteacher Bishop David Makimei asked the government to be releasing capitation money at least a month or a few weeks before schools are opened.

He said this will enable schools and their board of managements to plan appropriately.

Makimei also asked the government to add more classrooms to public schools saying junior secondary schools had increased student numbers.

He said many private schools have not been able to set up JSS and are forced to direct parents to public schools.

"You can now imagine a public school which is surrounded by several private schools and who are struggling to get their JSS learner's to join," the headteacher said.

The MP said his office had started putting up more classrooms and buying more furniture to help pupils learn with ease.

Kiragu also said he has selected a school from each ward to benefit and also help to reduce cases of residents taking their children far away in search of quality education.
