Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mogeni has urged Azimio to allow healthy competition within the coalition on who should take over leadership from Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Tuesday in an interview on KTN, he said that if Azimio would wish to be serious about who should take the mantle, they should allow everyone eyeing for presidential seat to vie.

“I think there is nothing wrong in this healthy debate as to who should inherit the mantle from Raila Odinga,” he said.

“If we in Azimio want to be serious about taking over leadership, we should allow this health competition within our coalition. If Oparanya, Kalonzo, Karua, or any other candidate wants to go for the presidency, let them step forward, and we’ll pick a person who enjoys broad support and who can take leadership from the UDA administration.”

Raila made public his intentions to vie for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

A candidate for AU Commission chairman must be fronted by a member state, meaning President Ruto’s administration will be spearheading Raila’s candidature.

Should Raila become the next AU Commission chair, it means that he will have to exit the country's political space.

A silent but vicious succession battle ODM party with the outfit's top brass secretly scheming against each other.

Multiple interviews with insiders point to a scheme by a section of top party officials to inherit Raila's constituency and take over ODM.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also embarked on a multi-pronged strategy to lay the ground to succeed Raila as the joint opposition presidential candidate in 2027.

After postponing his presidential bid for 15 years, Kalonzo believes he qualifies to inherit Raila's political base and successfully challenge President William Ruto's reelection in 2027.

In his bid to once more throw his political hat into the ring, Kalonzo has changed tack and is not only aggressive but also politically combative.

Kalonzo has previously been known as a proponent of clean politics in a country replete with dirty political maneuvers, including insults.

The one time presidential candidate under the ODM Kenya banner in 2008, has now decided to take the Kenya Kwanza administration head-on.
