Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has said the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report has not split the Azimio La Umoja coalition.

Kioni said despite the dissenting views on the report, the Jubilee party is still part of the coalition.

He however reiterated that the NADCO report did not address the cost of living that saw thousands participate in protests that led to several deaths.

NADCO unveiled the report signed by Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka and MP Kimani Ichung’wa representing Kenya Kwanza coalition, which recommended an audit of the 2022 electoral process and restructuring of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) among others late last month.

As a way of lowering the cost of living, the report recommended that all arms of government reduce travel by 50 per cent and for the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to review the per diem given to state officers during official travel by 30 per cent.

It also proposed the reduction of the road maintenance levy by Sh5 per litre and the anti-adulteration levy by Sh3 per litre.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga expressed reservations about the report for failing to propose tangible ways of addressing the cost of living but noted that it was a good start.

Raila said while his side made reasonable proposals on how to address the rising cost of living, the government side flatly rejected them terming the matter its exclusive business.

Azimio co-principal and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua called for the rejection of the report saying it had served Kenyans a contempt card.

Eugene Wamalwa, also a co-principal and a member of NADCO registered his discontent with the report saying it did not do justice to the issue of high cost of living which he said is the most important issue to Kenyans and vowed not to accept any sitting allowance associated with it.

Kioni said during a meeting with Jubilee delegates in Murang’a County that the party will also not support the amendment of the constitution through the back door.

The party had earlier questioned the creation of the Prime Minister’s position that was captured in the Report.

“Issues of creating offices must follow the constitutional procedure and that is through a referendum. No shortcuts. This is clear in the mind of Raila as it is clear for any other Azimio member. A referendum is a must," he said.

“But our failure to endorse the report does not mean we are out of Azimio.”

Parliament is expected to debate the report in a special meeting before the end of the year.
