A 30-year-old man has been lynched by villagers in Nyaga, Gatanga subcounty, Murang'a, after allegedly killing his lover.
Anthony Kamau is said to have accosted his girlfriend Mary Mwihaki, 39, while she was milking cows in her employer's home where he attacked her and decapitated her head on Wednesday.
The incident attracted the attention of villagers who flocked to the home and descended on him in anger and killed him.
Reverend Gatua Karanja said Mwihaki separated from her husband a few years ago before she was employed in a teacher’s home.
He said Mwihaki has been a follower of his Kihumbu-ini full gospel church.
The reverend said the suspect was also a known villager who did casual jobs such as harvesting avocadoes.
“Both were well known. Lovers should find amicable ways of resolving their differences,” he said.
Vicky Nkatha who lived in the same building with Mwihaki said the deceased had met her boyfriend on Sunday and that he called yesterday evening asking whether she would meet him.
“She told me yesterday that she feared going to meet him and I convinced her not. I woke up to the news that she had been killed,” she said.
She eulogized Mwihaki as a good-hearted person saying they would cook and eat their meals together.
