A man has been lynched in Bungoma over claims he stole food.
According to a police report, the incident happened at Komiriai village in Chebukuyi within Lwandanyi.
The incident was reported by the area chief Joseph Mukenya.
“Police officers visited the scene and established that on November 7, Fred Oroni, 50, and a resident of the said area was notified by his wife that an unknown person had entered their kitchen and stole a sufuria containing githeri meant for supper,” the statement read.
“They started looking for the man, Fred Bakira 38, who is their immediate neighbour walking away with the said meal about 800 metres from their homestead.”
The villagers raised an alarm and the public responded armed with pangas and other weapons.
They assaulted the suspect inflicting him with serious injuries.
He had a deep cut on the neck.
The suspect had a severed and missing right ear and other visible injuries on his legs and arms.
