Women in Kiambu have said they will campaign for Jubilee to ensure the party gets the majority of MP seats in the August 9 election.

Woman representative aspirant Lennah Koinange on Wednesday urged women to start campaigning in their homes and extend it to their neighbours.

She fronted a door-to-door strategy to convince people back party aspirants.

Koinange, the daughter of former Cabinet minister Mbiu wa Koinange, urged women to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's wish to see his party retain seats in the area.

Jubilee Women League chairperson Fatuma Gedi urged women and residents to work hard so the President will have a say in the 13th Parliament by giving him many MPs.

She said Uhuru is the party leader and denying him members in Parliament would diminish the party's bargaining power.

“We are confident that Azimio la Umoja under its presidential candidate Raila Odinga, will win the August polls and form the next government,” she said.

“Jubilee is part of the coalition. We are asking you people from Kiambu, the home county of Uhuru, not to deny him MPs and other elected leaders."

Gedi asked residents to vote for Jubilee leaders from the Senate, governor, woman representative, MPs and even MCAs.

They spoke when they attended a Jubilee Women League meeting at Jumuiya Conference and Country Home in Kabuku, Limuru.

Among the MPs who attended were Rachel Nyamae (Kitui South), Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira), Wangare Mwaniki (Kigumo), Sofia Abdi (Ijala).

Others were Maison Leshomo (Samburu), Sarah Korere (Laikipia North) and Sabina Chege (Murang'a Woman Representative).

Kiambu Governor James Nyoro was present. He said hopefuls who will not get the party ticket will be offered jobs by the party.

Nyoro urged those who will not get certificates to continue supporting the party since it represented the interests of the Mt Kenya region.

Jubilee director of gender affairs and programmes Gloria Njambi dismissed politicians saying the party is dead.

She said the ruling party is still vibrant and President Kenyatta is busy serving the country.
