Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngiric i has called on all presidential aspirants to assure Kenyans they will accept the outcome of the August 9 polls.
She directed the sentiments to Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga who are the presumed top candidates in this year’s election.
Ngirici, while in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga, said that the two presidential frontrunners must come out publicly and announce that whoever will lose fairly in the elections will accept defeat.
During their separate tours in the United Kingdom recently, the two political big wigs challenged each other to pledge to Kenyans and the world that they will accept defeat.
However, the two have not come out clearly on the matter during their political rallies but instead have resulted in blame game.
Ngirici said that politicians must stop dragging the country back.
She challenged other leaders seeking various seats not to shy away from pronouncing themselves on accepting defeat to avert tension and post-election mayhem,witnessed previously.
She said that no single leader has shown clear indication that they will respect the will of the people in August.
The legislator said that some aspirants have started claiming there is a scheme to rig elections.
“Failure to accept results risks plunging the country into a grinding halt thus affecting the economy," she said.
"It’s high time all leaders must prove to Kenyans that this year they will emulate western countries.”
The woman representative was speaking on Tuesday after receiving defectors from Martha Karua's Narc-Kenya party.
She also welcomed a section of incumbent Governor Anne Waiguru's supporters at her Kerugoya based private office .
Ngirici challenged Independent Elections and Boundary Commission to ensure that this year elections will be free and fair.
