Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has announced he will vie for governor on a Jubilee Party ticket.

On Monday, Ndambiri urged Kirinyaga residents to vote  for Jubilee candidates to strengthen the party.

He dismissed allegations that the party is unpopular and will face a tough contest in the August polls.

"Let no one lie to you that our party is dead; it's alive and ready for  a healthy competition," Ndambiri said.

He expressed optimism that the party will win all elective seats in Mt Kenya.

Ndambiri, who spoke to Jubilee delegates in Ndia, praised President Kenyatta for steering the party and the country in the right path.

"We would want that kind of leadership to continue even after his term ends. This can only happen if we support Jubilee candidates," he said.

He promised to turn around the county's fortune for the benefit of the residents.

Despite being the deputy governor, Ndambiri claims he doesn't enjoy a good working relationship with Governor Anne Waiguru.

He lamented to have been sidelined by Waiguru and blamed her for running the county like a private entity.

Among the key departments he pledged to prioritise are health and education.

He also promised to reinstate more than 300 medics who were sacked after participating in the 2019 strike.

Moreover, he promised to raise the salaries of ECDE teachers.

"All medics who lost their jobs will be re-employed without re-applying . I will also ensure that my administration boosts the ECDE teachers' morale by bettering their pay," he said.

Other candidates who have expressed interest in the seat are the incumbent Ann Waiguru(UDA), Martha Karua (Narc Kenya ), Wangui Ngirici (independent ), Peter Gitau (PNU), Joseph Ndathi (TSP) and businessman Ndau Chomba.
