KCB head Coach Curtis Olago targets redemption in the Kenya Cup semifinals after his charges fell 10-14 to Kabras Sugar in the final game of the regular fixtures on Saturday.

The bankers will meet Kenya Harlequin or Menengai Oilers in the semis.

Olago acknowledged the need for improvement in certain areas ahead of the semifinals.

“Our attention now shifts to the semifinals. We need to correct a few mistakes,” Olago said.

He lauded his team's effort with Darwin Mukidza earning praises.

“There are a lot of positives to pick from this match. The boys played well especially our props and utility back Darwin, whose experience brought stability to the team," said Olago.

KCB seized the initiative with a fast early try from Mukidza, converted by Trevor Odawa for a 7-0 lead.

However, Kabras quickly retaliated, narrowing the deficit with a well-executed try from captain George Nyambua for a 7-5 score.

Both teams intensified their offensive efforts resulting in a heightened level of physicality and tactical play.

Amidst this backdrop, KCB found themselves disadvantaged when Festus Shiasi received a yellow card for a high tackle, providing Kabras with a prime opportunity to capitalise and secure a crucial penalty to lead 8-7 at the break.

The second half witnessed a resurgence from Kabras Sugar, who capitalised on their momentum to extend the advantage with two successful penalty conversions by Dukisa.

Despite a late surge from KCB, highlighted by Mukidza's penalty prowess, the clock ran out.

KCB became the first team to deny Kabras a bonus point.

Meanwhile, Kisumu secured their Kenya Cup status with a 23-17 win at home to Strathmore Leos while Menengai Oilers condemned Catholic Monks to the second tier with a 34-23 win at the Catholic University.

There was drama at the RFUEA  when Nakuru claimed a last-gasp 31-20 win over Mwamba. Nakuru were leading 24-20 while under pressure before sealing the win with an intercept and converted try to ease their nerves.

Kenyatta University Blak Blad’s playoff hopes got a massive boost as they were awarded a 28-0 walkover against Homeboyz. They simply need to avoid defeat against Kisumu to secure the sixth and final playoff slot.
