KCB RFC has booked a place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 30th edition of the Great Rift Rugby 10-aside tournament at the Nakuru Athletics Club.

The bankers cemented their position after running riot against the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), trouncing the varsity lads 57-0 before beating the University of Nairobi Mean Machine 43-5.

The team, coached by former Shujaa captain Andrew Amonde, was handed a walkover in the first match after Kibabii University gave the assignment a wide berth.

Amonde said: “My players have been tremendous. Of course, we came here with the objective to win all our matches and as you can see, we are still within the target.

"We want to take each match at a time and hopefully clinch this trophy. As a team, our opponents will be looking to play us considering the display we have showcased here. It will be critical for us to work on our defense so that we do not give away easy tries,” Amonde added.

KCB will miss the services of Edward Otieno who has been ruled out of the competition after picking up an injury.

Amonde carefully picked his team for the outing ensuring a blend of young and experienced players.

Festus Shiasi, Martin Owilla, Isaac Njoroge and Geoffrey Okwach are some of the big names who made the difference.

Martin Owilla, the team's captain added: “It feels good to be back home here in Nakuru. It is an exhilarating outing. We look forward to the next matches and I urge all our fans to turn up in large numbers and support the team.”
