Kenya Simbas coach Jerome Paarwater insists they have work to do in the execution of setpieces, a let-down during their 18-7 defeat to Eastern Province Elephants in a Currie Cup match on Saturday.
The South African tactician said Kenya were competitive in the first half but scrum and line-out wobbled in the second, allowing the hosts to dominate and build a platform for victory.
"Our second half performance was not great. We battled well in the first half but in the second, our setpiece was not able to get parity. We were not competitive,” said Paarwater
He said they must also improve on their attack after going the whole of the second without scoring.
"We dropped a couple of balls in the second half and for a couple of times, there was miscommunication with the final pass," he added
The Simbas face Border Bulldogs on Saturday and Paarwater expects a reaction from his team.
"Going forward, we will have an intense week of training to get top speed for the Bulldogs game and hopefully get our first win of the competition," he said.
The Simbas lone try was scored by Hillary Mwanjilwa and converted by Ntabeni Dukisa as the Simbas trailed 10-7 at halftime.
It was sweet revenge for the Eastern Province Elephants, who had lost 41-24 to the Simbas last year at the RFUEA ground.
Skipper George Nyambua is confident of bouncing back. "It was a tough game but we have learnt our lessons,” said Nyambua.
The Simbas have now lost two of the two matches played. They lost 32-22 to San Clemente Rhinos in Cape Town a fortnight ago.
