Kenya Sevens legend Collin Injera has joined the Mwamba technical bench ahead of the start of the sevens circuit next month.

Shujaa's top try scorer joins the coaching unit as a defence and attack coach and will work with Peter Kepher who takes a new role as skills and development coach.

Mwamba's director of rugby, Fahad Adil Mohammed, said the two will also serve as assistant coaches to the head coach, who will be unveiled at a later date.

We are happy to have Collins join the team. He has been a quality player for club and country and no doubt he will be a huge asset to our technical bench. He is a club man through and through and he is happy to continue working with us,” Mohammed said.

On his part, Injera said he is looking forward to working with the rest of the technical unit and the playing staff.

I am excited to start working with Peter and the rest of the staff and to join the Mwamba Rugby in their rebuild journey. The current crop of players is made up of young, hungry and good quality players who are eager to learn and improve,” he said.

Injera was inducted into the Melrose Hall of Fame in Scotland a fortnight ago and in January, he was inducted into the Fiji Sevens Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Sevens game.

He retired in January after a 17-year career with Shujaa and Mwamba.

He is the country's top try scorer in the World Seven Series with 279 tries and had a distinguished playing career with Mwamba, winning the Sevens circuit twice as a player.

Mohammed said their target for the upcoming Sevens campaign will be to win the title.

“We have had a lean spell on the circuit. We need to go all out and win the circuit although it won't be easy with the calibre of teams we will be facing," he noted.

He added " We expect the likes of Oilers, KCB, and Strathmore to be strong although I believe we are up to the task," added Mohammed.
