Wimbledon doubles junior champion Angela Okutoyi said the best is yet to come after winning the Rwanda Open on Sunday.
The country's youngest Kenya Open champion defeated her sibling, Rosehilda Asumwa 6-2 , 6-1, in her final tournament of the year before departing for Auburn University in January.
She said she is targeting to play multiple tournaments once she lands inAmerica.
"Its been a great year playing the four grand slams. Winning at Wimbledon Open, going deep into the Women's World tennis tour and winning the Rwanda Open can be said to be a good year for me,” said Okutoyi.
She is also hopeful of learning how to juggles her studies and playing tennis.
"This is a big boost for me. It gives me an opportunity to play in the USA, where I will compete in some tournaments. The exposure I have gained this year will be a big plus,” added Okutoyi.
"The Rwanda Open was a nice tournament and I am glad that I won. I am sad that she [Asumwa] lost. It's always a pleasure to play against my sister," said Okutoyi.
Asumwa is also hopeful of winning some tournaments in the new year.
"It was tough playing against my sister but getting to the final was big plus for me. I look forward to a better 2023," she said.
For her win, Okutoyi bagged Sh308,000.
In the men's category Albert Njogu beat Ismael Changawa 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and termed the win as a big boost heading to next year.
"Playing against Ismael is always great. He is a worthy opponent and I had to dig deep and show some mentality to win the game, especially in the second set,” added Njogu.
Jane Ndenga won the women's wheelchair championship after beating Rehema Saidi Selemani of Tanzania .
Ndenga had to come from a set (4-6) behind to win the last two (6-4, 6-2).
