National Super League side Luanda Villa expect new coach Gilbert Selebwa’s experience to help them reach new heights.

On Tuesday, Selebwa was appointed to replace Tom Tera after what the club said was “a thorough search and evaluation.”

“Selebwa brings a wealth of experience and has a proven track record in football management. We are confident that his expertise will propel Luanda Villa to new heights,” the club said in a statement.

Tera will deputise Selebwa, who has previously coached AFC Leopards and Shabana.

“This transition allows Tera to undertake his CAF ‘B’ Course while continuing to contribute to the team. We are grateful for his dedication and commitment to the club. We are excited about his future growth and contributions,” the club added.

The club said the new development complies with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations.

Former left-back Francis Oduor joins the NSL outfit as a trainer. “Oduor’s extensive knowledge and experience in player development and fitness will be invaluable in enhancing our team’s performance on the field,” the statement added.

The appointments and adjustments are meant to strengthen the team and support players in achieving their full potential.

“We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of excellence and professionalism in all aspects of the club’s operations,” the club concluded.

The club who are 11th on the standings with 43 points from 32 games, recently landed Maybets as their official sponsor.

Meanwhile, Nairobi City Stars goalkeeper Byron Owino is excited after making his KPL debut against Nzoia Sugar over the weekend.

“I’m excited to have finally earned my Kenyan top-flight debut. This is a dream come true and I thank the coaches for trusting me to play ahead of regular Edwin Mukolwe against Nzoia,” said Owino.

“Though we did not win, it pleases me that I walked home with a clean sheet. I am now challenged and encouraged to work harder and land more game time to help me master the Premier League better.”

Owino was signed from NSL side Kibera Black Stars in the mid-season transfer window. He swapped places with Julius Ombacho, who joined Black Stars on loan.

Prior to his debut, Owino was named on the bench four times.
