Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry wants the Green Army to swarm Mbaraki grounds and roar them on during a top-of-the-table clash against hosts Bandari on Saturday.

The record champions will seek to extend their lead over their Kenyan Premier League rivals and solidify their position at the top.

K’Ogalo lead the standings with 50 points, 10 clear of both Bandari and Tusker, who are separated by goal difference.

McKinstry lavished praise on the vibrant K’Ogalo fanbase for rallying behind his charges throughout the season.

“Our fans have been fantastic this season. They travel the length and breadth of the country. You’ll have people coming from as far as Homa Bay and Kisumu,” McKinstry remarked.

“This is a remarkable effort and we thank them for it. I think they know the players go out there every week and work hard because they respect and appreciate the efforts the fans are putting in,” he added.

The Northern Irish tactician reminisced about his encouraging experience with the fans during their last encounter against Bandari.

“We had a great crowd in Mombasa last year when we won 2-1 and I think we might have even more fans this year. We are looking forward to having the Green Army at the coast and we hope they will enjoy themselves,” McKinstry stated. “We want them to bring colour and noise and be part of what is, hopefully, going to be a 21st championship,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Bidco United tactician Anthony Akhulia will be keen to avoid defeat when they face fifth-placed Nairobi City Stars at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

City Stars have 38 points while Bidco are ninth with 31.

“They (City Stars) are on a good run. Our aim is to avoid defeat,” said Akhulia. He will rely on their sharpness from the training ground and a near-full squad with only goalkeeper John Otieno sidelined through injury.

City Stars’ custodian, Edwin Mukolwe, who has eight clean sheets, presents a formidable challenge for Bidco attackers. However, Akhulia still believes they have a chance.

“We know their keeper is in good form and their defence is also good. My attackers need to be clinical with the chances created,” he stated.
